We stayed at Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel this past week. Since it was the week after Valentine’s day and Aiden was off from school during the President’s day week, we decided to take a quick trip down to Dana Point, CA. It was our first time in Dana Point and we absolutely loved the location. It took us about 7 hours of driving to get there from San Francisco Bay Area with an hour stop for lunch and a half hour pit stop for coffee. Both the kids did pretty well during the drive. We made sure to carry a couple of stuffed toys, some flash reading cards and snacks to keep them entertained.
Check in (4.5/5)
The resort is absolutely beautiful with magnificent views of the Pacific ocean. Since we drove the previous day and stayed at a nearby Best Western the previous night, we reached the hotel around noon. We checked in, but our room was not ready until 2pm. We spent the two hours exploring the resort, the beautiful gym which overlooks the ocean, the resort grounds outside, the pools, the basketball/tennis court and the children’s play area. Once we got the call that our room was ready, everyone from the front desk to the bell hop were very courteous and helpful in getting us settled into our room.
Our room had a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. We had requested for a coastal view, so we had some view of the resort grounds as well. The room size itself was pretty small for the 4 of us. We’ve stayed at the Ritz in Half Moon Bay twice and the rooms have definitely been bigger. The bathroom was pretty tiny as well which was our only disappointment during our stay.
Service and The Raya Restaurant(4/5)
Service is simply exceptional at the Ritz. The only reason for 4 stars was because of the waitress who was not up to Ritz’s standards when we dined at ‘The Raya’ for lunch. She didn’t seem to
`understand our orders and we had to repeat a couple of times before she understood what we were trying to say. She seemed to have less patience as well, perhaps she was having a bad day. The views from this restaurant during the day is gorgeous and is definitely worth dining here. The food was very fresh and tasty as well.
Our stay (4.5/5)
We spent 3 days at the resort and we didn’t bother to step out except for dinner. We played basketball, some tennis, table tennis, had the kids play in the children’s area for a bit and spent some time at the pool as well. We also walked all the way down to the beach and had the hotel setup beach chairs and an umbrella for us which was perfect. We didn’t however spend any time at the gym or at the spa. We absolutely enjoyed our stay, left feeling relaxed and will definitely be visiting other Ritz locations in the future (Tahoe and Santa Barbara).
Now some pictures from our trip 🙂
